Archaeological Sites on Kauai

Kihahouna Heiau is the site that once featured a walled temple. Standing by 130 feet by 90, the temple was dedicated to some of the most significant gods to ancient Hawaiians — Kāne, Hulukoki, Ku‐hai‐moana, and Ka‐moho‐alii. The temple was erected by Kiha‐ke‐oho‐lupalupa, the second chief of Koloa, according to legend.

The Kihahouna celebrates the four gods along with their hā (breath) and mana (life force) that still exist in the special space. The Kihahouna Heiau can be found along the Kōloa Heritage Trail which highlights Kaui's natural beauty, heritage, and culture.
