The actual name of this cinder cone on Kauai is unknown. "Pu‘u o Hewa" has received its name from a legend involving an old map with the pu‘u's name crossed out with the word "Hewa" written beside it. Hewa translates to error or mistake, alluding to the crossed out name being the incorrect one. However, no correction other than "Hewa" was given and so the name has stuck!
