The hula mound, Pāʻū a Laka, can be found on the western side of the Luahinealapiʻi (Hapa Trail) where the Hapa meets the Hoʻonani Road. ‘Iolani Luahine, a legendary hula icon, learned and practiced at this location from Keahi Luahine. Pāʻū a Laka translates to mean "skirt of Laka" and is named in honor of the Hawaiian goddess of hula.

The site is also said to be a site of a sacred hula training temple and the lava rock formations remain the same as arranged by ancient Hawaiians.
